Tips for Success

Tips to Prepare for the OCN Exam:

·         YOU WILL PASS!!! J

·         Do not procrastinate or stress.

·         Make a schedule and stick to it- do a certain # of chapters a week

·         Take practice questions

·         Participate in the OCN Review classes

·         Visit ONCC to take free practice exams, or purchase exams

·         Cover only the material you feel weak on, do not spend lots of time on your strong points

·         Know only generic drug names

·         Know how to calculate an ANC without a calculator

·         When studying try to use personal examples to remember information. It helps remember information better

o   Example: I had a patient with colorectal cancer that we tested tumor marker CEA.

·         Know your chemotherapy drugs and main side effects of each

o   Example: Bevacizumab (nose bleeds, HTN) Bleomycin: (pulmonary fibrosis)

·         Know classifications of chemo drugs

i.e. MAB have the most anaphylactic reactions
